Miss Belanger and Mrs. Stahl worked together to make sure that all students at Schneider Elementary in the Blue Ridge #18 District are able to communicate. Core boards are low-tech Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tools used in schools to provide visual aids for students who have difficulty with spoken language, helping them learn and use common "core vocabulary" to express wants, needs, and thoughts.
By pointing to symbols for high-frequency words like "want" or "more," students gain a visual and tactile experience with language, which supports spoken language development, enhances participation in classroom activities, and fosters a foundation for literacy.
Schools use them in various settings, like classroom instruction, recess, and transitions, making them a consistent, portable, and reliable communication method to give all students a voice.
TCSEA and Blue Ridge thank you for your dedicated service to students!
